Really Brandon?

I’ve more than covered the “Woe is Me” shit. The Sabres are severely under-performing, and let’s not even talk about the Eagles. They ain’t even a “Dream Team” in Madden right now.
Unfortunately, I can be one of those individuals who will let his sports affiliations bleed over into “real life”. I quote “real life” because I more or less make a living on sports. It’s no easier for me to separate sports and life than it is for you to separate life and work.
Beliefs have never really been my thing. I’ve always said just believe in something that is beneficial to you and those around you, whatever that may be. But I do believe in karma. At least on some level. For me, karma was the Heat blowing it to the Mavericks last season in the Finals. Or even Tim Tebow beating the Steelers last week.
So when Chris Paul was traded to the Clippers (I identify myself as a Clippers and Sixers fan, it hasn’t been much fun recently) I found every reason to doubt the transaction. I felt that the Clippers could have waited and held onto Eric Gordon. And $65+ million to Caron Butler and DeAndre Jordan? While still giving up the T’Wolves unprotected first round pick in 2012?
Then I watched the Clippers beat the Heat. Sure it wasn’t pretty. The Heat lost the game at the free throw line. But you could see the Clippers grow throughout the evening, into the early morning. Caron Butler was hitting his 3’s and playing defense (and looking healthy) harder than he had in at least two seasons. Chauncey Billups continued to be “Mr. Big Shot”. DeAndre Jordan flew around the court to the tune of 8 blocks and was monstrous for the Clippers in overtime.
And Blake. He actually didn’t have a particularly good game. But he went H.A.M. (seriously if you don’t know, Google it) at the defensive end. Then there’s Reggie Evans. For all the talk about Tebow and how his attitude is infectious, look at Reggie Evans. He gives it the proverbial 110% from the second he steps on the court until the second he steps off it. Chris Paul acknowledged as much after the game.
Then there is the Chris Paul. Or CP3. Or The Savior of Donald Sterling. Whatever you want to call him. Just make sure that “Fucking Brilliant” is in the descriptive header. He was the best player on the floor at a time when the floor was occupied by LeBron James, D-Wade, Chris Bosh and Blake Griffin. His ability to distribute the basketball without turning it over, his ability to score at will and his willingness and intelligence at the defensive end are what separates him.
This is completely glossing over how good the Sixers have been. But they didn’t make any big moves. They chose to stay the course. Which seems to have been the correct move.
Now we come to what actually inspired me to put the virtual ink on the virtual paper after having hit Happy Hour like any angry Ray Lewis. The New York Yankees pulled off a feat greater than landing Mark Teixeira and C.C. Sabathia in one off-season.
The Yankees signed Hiroki Kuroda to a one-year, $10 million contract. Which by itself was impressive. The rumors were that Kuroda wanted to play on the West Coast and he wanted a multi-year deal.
But then IT happened. After all of the deals the Yankees have made over the years, this deal might be the one that ultimately defines Brian Cashman. He dealt career DH Jesus Montero (masquerading as a catcher) and Hector Noesi (who projects as a #2 stater at best) for Michael Pineda.
Yep, that Michael Pineda. One of the best young players/pitchers in baseball. And Cashman didn’t have to touch the vaunted pair of Manny Banuelos and Dellin Betances. Sure Pineda might see his numbers fall off a bit by moving from Safeco Field to Yankee Stadium. But he will also see run support that he never dreamed of in Seattle.
You always hear about “game changers”. Well my friends, this is a FUCKING GAME CHANGER. The Yankees have just under one million ways to fill in their vacant DH position. And Kuroda comes off of the books next season.
Now pardon me as I drop the “woe is me” shit, and get my damn Happy Dance on. Happy weekend to all.
